American rock band 'Daughtry' have a song called - "What have we
become" and the second line of the song is :- "One day changes
everything". That line struck a chord with me. It made me think that in our life there are moments or days that change the rest of our life. We all no doubt have our own personal examples of really special days. Maybe it was the day that you met your spouse. We all fondly remember the day when our first child was born. All first time parents soon discover how a child changes everything in their life! Maybe it was the day that you chose to change your career path. Maybe it was one particular day that gave you a whole new perspective on life. I am sure you all have some special day that has transformed your life. I truly believe, one day can change everything. Maybe there are certain days in your life that has brought you to a particular place in terms of your faith. The Bible certainly is full of special days. The Jews have their special days that they mark at various points in the year. And the Christian Church have special days where we mark special events in the history of our redemption. Even though we do not really know the actual date of Jesus' birth - the church has chosen the 25th of December to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour. In the history of the world could there have been a more special day. The day that God dwelt with man. But when Jesus, God's Son was born, very few people knew about it; even fewer knew how extra special this birth was. Born in a humble stable - how could this birth of all birth's be special. The world carried on as normal - not knowing what God had done - not knowing that the prophecy concerning the coming of a Saviour was now fulfilled. "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given" And 20 centuries on from this special birth - Much of the world still carries on as normal - not knowing what God has done. Not knowing that God's love in giving us His SON has changed everything. And let Him change everything for you. People want to know LOVE, JOY AND PEACE in their lives. But they cannot seem to find it. They look for these three things in this world. But they cannot always be found here - and if they are found - they can soon be gone again. I know where I have found love, joy, and peace - a love, joy and peace that cannot be lost - that cannot be taken away. I have found it in the ONE WHO WAS BORN IN A POOR STABLE IN BETHLEHEM. If you feel stressed or depressed this Christmas - As many people do at this time of year - find a quiet place - away from all the surface merriment of Christmas and just ponder what God has done in giving us his Son. The day Jesus was born - was indeed a day that changed everything. Certainly believing what scripture says concerning this CHILD can change your whole perspective on life. Through this Child born in Bethlehem - we can know true love - true joy and true peace. By knowing Jesus - by knowing the Lover of our souls - by knowing the joy of His Coming - by knowing the Prince of our Peace - everything can change within us - and in our relationship with those around us. Make this Christmas special - not only by recalling the special days in your life that changed everything for you, and that have brought you to where you are today. Make this Christmas truly special by pondering - the day that Jesus was born - the day that God dwelt among us in flesh - "Emmanuel - God with us"; the day that truly changed everything. |
